Can A New Brace Offer Relief For PTTD?
When it comes to ankle support for posterior tibial tendon dysfunction (PTTD), a specially designed foot brace may offer quick relief.
The Aircast AirLift PTTD Brace may help with the treatment of PTTD and early signs of adult-acquired flatfoot, according to DJO Global, the manufacturer of the device. The brace uses the Airlift integrated aircell in collaboration with a semi-rigid shell. DJO Global says the shell provides more support and alignment for the ankle.

CPME May Extend Residency Requirement To Three Years

The Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) is proposing longer residency requirements for podiatrists to qualify for advanced certification. The council advocates lengthening the residency duration from two years to three, according to CPME 320 documents posted on www.cpme.org/
Is The Closing Base Wedge Osteotomy Extinct?
The closing base wedge osteotomy (CBWO) has long been a favorite for the severe bunion deformity in podiatric surgical history, especially throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Has the once sacred procedure become extinct? Is this procedure still a viable option for the severe bunion deformity? Do the potential complications move this procedure to the back of the bus when it comes to treating the severe bunion deformity?
In my opinion, the answer to all of these questions is yes.

Studies Suggest Possible Link Between CT Scans And Cancer

In recent years, computed tomography (CT) has gained wider usage among podiatrists as a diagnostic tool. However, recently published studies in the Archives of Internal Medicine sound a warning about a potential link between CT scans and cancer.
In the first study, researchers estimated that about 29,000 future cancers could be related to CT scans performed in 2007.

Well, it is that time of year again. It is the time for New Year’s resolutions. Lose weight, stop smoking, read more, exercise more, etc. We have all made resolutions and sometimes keep them. Here is one I would ask you to consider for this upcoming year: become involved with your state podiatric medical association.
